Thank You for Being a Friend

http://stuphblog.com/2014/04/18/25-days-of-songs-i-challenge-you/

I met my best friend just a couple short years ago. I met Merry thanks to a Beatles hoodie. We were both in an aftercare hospital program and the first day Merry showed up she was wearing that hoodie.

I just happen to be a huge Beatles fan going back almost 40 years now. So, when I saw that hoodie I had to find out how big a Beatles fan she is. WELL, even though Merry had only begun loving the Beatles a few years before, I could tell she was a BIG fan. Someone with whom I could go to Beatles events!

We talked about the Beatles for days. When the program ended we kept in touch and started going to Beatles Tribute Band concerts, looking for Beatles records together at garage sales/flea markets, and even going on a trip to see Paul McCartney (we are going to see Ringo this summer).

In between Beatles conversations we found that we had quite a few things in common and we began chatting and visiting just to hang out. It wasn’t very long before I realized what a good friend to me this Merry woman is.

She has been there through good times and bad in the last few years and she accepts me as I am. We laugh, we cry, we do cool stuff together. Her family has been so good to me, her husband and daughter and her mother and aunt also treat me like family. It has been a nice couple of years having such a drama free friend who is not demanding of my time no matter how I feel. She is one cool chick. lol

Okay, so the song that reminds me of Merry is Thank You for Being a Friend. I know, you were thinking it would be a Beatles song. All Paul McCartney songs, Beatles and solo stuff, remind me of Merry, but this song is how I feel, very lucky to have her as a best friend.

Thank You For Being A Friend

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you’re a pal and a confidant

I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be from me
and the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it’s a car you lack
I’d surely buy you a cadillac
Whatever you need, anytime of the day or night

I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear, even though it’s hard to hear
I will stand real close and say,
Thank you for being a friend

(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Let me tell you bout a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die and float away
Into the night, the Milky Way
You’ll hear me call, as we ascend
I’ll see you there, then once again
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
Whoa, tell you about a friend
(Thank you right now, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend
(I wanna tell you right now, and tell you again)
Thank you for being a friend
(I wanna thank you, thank you, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend
